It’s no secret that barefoot bowls has made a pretty big comeback and people around the globe are stripping off (their shoes) to get in on the old-timers’ sport. So it’s about time you listen to your Nanna and join in on an afternoon spot of bowls and a schooner of shandy (hold the lemonade). What could be better.
True to their tagline- “The Sunshine State”, the Gold Coast is home to long days and warm afternoons. These ingredients are the perfect recipe for Lawn Bowls. Once dominated by social seniors in Napisan-clean whites, the “sport” has been adopted by a younger, barefoot, beer sinking generation.
While some newcomers are getting pretty keen on showing off their ball skills, for others, it’s more of an excuse to grab some mates, spend a lazy afternoon in the sun, soak up the Gold Coast’s views and share a bevvy or 10. Now you and yours can get involved on the very slow paced action too.

If you’re looking for an insight into the quintessential “Aussie lifestyle” than a visit to the Gold Coast’s sandy beaches, cafe scene and stunning natural environment should be at the top of your to do list. As Queensland’s second largest city, the region’s growth and popularity is a testament to the relaxed and welcoming vibe.
What better way to soak in the ambience than to kick off your jandles and spend a cruisy afternoon rolling balls down a grassy green. Whether your ball expert or you’re just there to have a drink with your mates, Lawn Balls is bound to keep everyone happy.
Some other ways to spend your time on the Gold Coast include:
Waterfalls - Contrary to what TLC tells you, chasing waterfalls is actually a very good idea, and there is no better place to start than the Gold Coast Hinterland. Most waterfalls are very easily accessed and only require a short bush walk through lush rainforests. Under the Gold Coast sun, the refreshing mountain streams also provide a nice little treat to reward yourself with at the end.
Mount Warning - If you’re game enough to venture south over the Queensland border, you’ll find there is #nofilter required at Mount Warning. Located in Northern NSW, the 8.8km, four-hour return walk up the mountain, culminates in breathtaking 360 degree views from the Gold Coast to Byron Bay.
Theme Parks - The Gold Coast should be the second home of every adrenaline junkie. With 6 theme parks to choose from, don’t leave the rollercoaster fun to the kids.
We had the best time, you can drink whilst playing on the green.
